  • Creative hobbyists interested in the art and science of sound.

Course breakdown

Step into the studio and start recording with confidence. This class introduces the essential tools and techniques for capturing vocals and guitar using the Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).

You’ll kick things off by learning how sound really works, then dive straight into microphones, mic placement, and time-tested recording techniques used in professional studios. Along the way, you’ll build a clear understanding of gain structure, signal flow, and how a studio is wired – from patch bays and preamps to speakers and effects.

To tie it all together, you’ll put your skills to work in the studio, recording a guest artist with guidance from an experienced instructor. By the end of the course, you won’t just know how recordings are made – you’ll understand why they sound great.

Get comfortable in Pro Tools and start running your sessions with confidence. This beginner-friendly class walks you through the Pro Tools interface and shows you the essential tools needed to run smooth, efficient recording sessions in a home or project studio.

You’ll learn how to create and route tracks, use plug-ins effectively, and apply simple mixing techniques that instantly improve your sound. The class also covers how audio interfaces connect microphones and instruments to Pro Tools, plus proper speaker setup for accurate monitoring.

Once you’re up and running, we jump into recording a full drum kit and tightening performances to a click track. You’ll explore practical editing techniques and see how Pro Tools’ Elastic Audio can quickly lock in drum, bass, and guitar parts – giving your recordings a clean, professional feel.

This is where your recordings really come to life. Mixing is the stage where individual tracks lock together and your music starts to sound finished, focused, and intentional. Mixing Music introduces the essential techniques used to turn raw sessions into release-ready mixes.

You’ll learn how to shape and balance your sound using classic mixing console concepts inside Pro Tools, while exploring creative tools like EQ, reverb, and delay. The course also covers how to properly organize and prep your session for mastering – so your final mix translates clearly, consistently, and professionally everywhere it’s heard.

Mastering is the final step that ties everything together. It’s where your songs become a cohesive body of work and take on a polished, professional finish. This course breaks down why mastering matters and how it shapes the way music is ultimately heard.

You’ll learn proven techniques for making tracks feel consistent and intentional – as if they were always meant to live on the same record. Topics include sequencing songs for flow, measuring and managing loudness, using limiters effectively, and understanding how mastering choices shift across today’s major streaming platforms.
